Dear Elle,
You are now 3 months old. Well actually you are 3 months and 4 days old. You are becoming so much fun! You are certainly a little light in our family and we love you so much.
Your brother is still very enamored with you. I taught him how to do "patty cake" with you. He moves your little hands and arm while reciting that poem and you just smile back at him.
You are still very quiet, not much of a talker. I think your brother makes up for that though. The only time we really hear your voice is when you are tired or mad. You like to sleep A LOT! In fact, you are still only to stay up for about an hour without getting fussy. You are still napping in your swing and sleeping in your crib at night. We usually put you in bed by 8pm wide awake. And you put yourself to sleep. We are still working on sleeping through the night. This week you actually had TWO nights where you did not eat from 10:30-6:30! This momma was so excited!
You are one strong little girl and often like to sit up. I think that may be why you detest your car seat so. Although you don't cry as much in it and have actually fallen asleep twice in it. I think you like to sit up, look around, and see the world.
I love you so much! Happy 3 Months!!!

4 Months Old
Dear Elle,
Today you are four months old! I can hardly believe it! You have lost so many newborn tendencies and now feel like a "real" baby and I am loving every minute with you.
You continue to be an easy baby. You are no longer sleeping in your swing, but have moved on to sleeping in your crib for nearly every nap. I am still amazed at your ability to put yourself to sleep. You are always wide awake when I lay you down and in just a few minutes you have drifted off to sleep. Sometimes I would love to spend a few minutes rocking you, but you are so independent and are happier going to sleep on your own.
You have discovered that your hands and feet are the best play things around. You study your hands, grab your toes, and are close to putting them in your mouth! You are very intense at times. You take time in your play gym very seriously and work hard to grab the toys hanging above you with your hands and feet. I think you are frustrated that you can't pull them down because you will only tolerate a few minutes and then you are DONE! You like to sit up a lot. I believe you want to see what is going on around you.
You continue to LOVE your big brother. He often gets some of your biggest smiles. And he continues to adore you. He runs up to you after school each day excited to see what cute outfit or bow you might be wearing. Today he said to you "Hi gorgeous!" as you sported your new headband with a bright pink rose. He often says to me, "Mom she's just so cute!". And he is convinced that he absolutely will not go off to college until you can go too. Sweet brother for a sweet sister.
You are a pretty quiet little girl. Sometimes I hear you cooing in the car, but for the most part you just sit back and take it all in. Until you get sleepy that is. Then you will grunt and moan until I realize that you are saying "Take me to bed!". And then you go right to sleep.
As much as you love your hands, you also love to taste everything! Nothing is safe from you as you try to explore and feel things with your mouth, from Dr. Carrie's stethoscope to your new tutu! It is hilarious to watch the intensity that you will shove things in there.
You are doing so much better in your car seat. You actually sleep in there now! This makes your momma so happy and we have celebrated with several trips to the grocery store, Target, and Home Goods.
You have the biggest smile which you flash often first thing in the morning and even during the middle of the night feedings. It's so cute and makes crawling out of bed that much easier!
I love you so much little girl! Happy 4 Months!!!

Mommy

12 Weeks Old
Dear Elle,
You are now 12 weeks old. I cannot believe how fast the time is going. People always say when you have a second baby you take less pictures, videos, etc. For whatever reason I think the assumption is that becoming a parent the second time around isn't as exciting and you don't feel the need to document every little thing the way you do with your first child.
Well little girl, I am here to tell you that they are wrong. Yes, there may be less pictures/videos, etc. And life may be a little busier this time around. But the real reason why there is less is because we have learned to enjoy the moments even more. We know how fast they will go now. So instead of trying to capture the moment we are living it, enjoying it, and savoring it. Sleepless nights are no longer something to lament over and cries on the monitor at 3 am don't cause grumbling. Rather they are just opportunities to spend relishing in your littleness. So as you are nearing three months, I just want to say slow down! I'm not ready! I want you to be little as long as you can.
You have gotten so big in these 12 weeks! Your little legs have chunky rolls and your length, my oh my! You've got the cutest round little belly too. It feels like you are making the transition from newborn to baby now. Your cry sounds a little more mature and not as frantic and ear piercing, except when you are really upset which is rare. You have begun to grasp things with your hands and kick at they toys in your play gym with your feet. Your latest discovery has been sucking on your fingers. You work so hard every night to break your swaddle and get your fingers into your mouth. You have a smile that stretches ear to ear. We are starting to hear your voice more and more. You still do not like to spend very much time in your car seat, but since we have started taking your brother to and from school every day you have gotten better. I have tried and tried to get you to fall asleep in the car, but it isn't for you. You have begun going to bed each night sometime between 6:30-8:00. We have started reading books before bed each night and your brother is starting to read to you too. He is so proud to show you all that he is learning in kindergarten. I put you in bed wide awake and I am still amazed at how easily you put yourself to sleep! You are still napping in your favorite swing, but pretty soon you will be graduating to your crib for every nap. See what I mean? It's going by so fast!
I love spending my days with you and am so thankful to have some extra time before going back to work at the end of November. These are the days I will cherish forever.
I love you baby girl. I know that you are a blessing and gift.

Two Months
Dear Elle,
Today you are two months old. My how the time is going so fast. You have grown so much in the last month. You are so much more alert, active, and smiley! That's my favorite part, your smile. You are pretty particular about giving smiles out and mornings are usually the best time to catch that grin. I still have yet to capture it on camera.
You make me smile and I love to watch you sleep. You spend a lot of time trying out different faces and expressions. It's hilarious to watch. Although sometimes you try out your sad face and cry. That is not my favorite.
You are working on rolling to your side. I love to watch you pull your little legs up into your abdomen and swing those hips to one side. You are pretty proud of yourself too.
You are such a little peanut and I often call you that. You are so sweet and snuggly. My favorite time with you is at the very end of the day. I feed you and you are so tired you sleep right through it. Then you will nap on my shoulder and I snuggle you into my neck. That is my favorite.
Two nights ago you went to sleep in your crib ALL BY YOURSELF! I didn't even get to rock you. Sis, that is so impressive because as I remember your brother was much older before he could accomplish such a feat.
You still hate your car seat, although you are getting a little bit better. I'm taking you out a bit more so perhaps that helps.
We call you "sis" or "sister" so much I fear you think that is your name. It's just too fun though to have a sister in our family. Brendan really loves you and is so protective of you. He loves to talk to you and touch you. You still love to hear his voice and often look for him with your eyes when he is around. You aren't as fond of all of the touching and I think you may be a little independent in that way. Sometimes you just want to be by yourself taking it all in.
We love you so much little girl and are so happy to have spent another month with you. You truly are a gift.

5 Weeks Old
Dear Elle,
Today you are five weeks old. I can't believe how fast time is going. In some ways I can't wait for you to smile, giggle, hold your head up, sit up, and lots of other big girl things. But at the same time I love to snuggle you to my chest and hear your little snorty sound as you breathe. I am cherishing my time with you as a newborn. I could sit and rock you all day.
You are so sweet little girl. You barely cry except when you are cold or tired. Last night you broke out of your swaddle and were making the saddest little whimpering cries. I went to check on you and wrapped you up tight and off you went to sleep again. You are so easy.
You are already recognizing night from day, at least most nights you are. In the beginning you were ready to party in the middle of the night, but you've gotten better and are sleeping really well now. Your longest stretch of sleep was five hours and you did that back to back in one night! I was so proud. And you are already sleeping in your crib. Your room is pretty special and I think you know that too.
Daddy and Brendan love you so much too. Brendan is such a proud big brother and is already making plans for you to join him on the bottom bunk in his bedroom. He may even let you bring along a princess blanket to sleep with he says. He's rocked you to sleep a few times and loves to talk to you. You look so intently at his face when he does that. I think it won't be long before he's your favorite person. Daddy loves to play with you too. I heard him telling you that you are daddy's girl and I secretly hope that it's true. Yes, little girl, you are pretty special to the men of in our house.
We call you baby sister a lot. In fact, you may answer to that before Isabelle or Elle. I guess we are so used to calling you that when you were in my tummy that it's hard to stop. Brendan and Daddy like to kid and call you "Izzy" just to spite me. You are, though, the most beautiful Isabelle.
Your hair is reddish brown right now and in certain lights, the red comes through. Your eyes are blue. I am curious to see if they will stay that way and think how cute you would be with strawberry blond hair and blue eyes.
Happy 5 Weeks little girl!

Your Birthday
Dear Elle,
In just a few short hours, we will be meeting for the first
time. I am overwhelmed with
anticipation and joy. I was
thinking back to one year ago from today and how you were just a prayer in my
heart. I so longed to have you and
prayed that God would deliver. I
know God had a plan for us and you were worth the wait.
Please know how much you are loved. You are so special and it is surreal to
think our little family of three will now be four. Your brother has been asking for a baby sister for a while
now and how amazing it is that his wish is coming true. I feel so blessed to experience being a
mom to both a boy and a girl.
My prayer for you is to be strong in character, confident in
who you are, and a follower of Christ.
I already know you are beautiful.
Isabelle Faye, I cannot wait to hold you for the first time
tomorrow. Seeing you will be one
of the best moments of my life. I
love you baby girl.
Mommy
